Christian Music Planet first appeared in 2002, after 7ball had ceased the year prior. Its coverage was similar to that of CCM, but with the dynamic of 7ball. Their operations were acquired in 2007 by Salem Media, then publishing CCM magazine, and shuttered.

CCM magazine published it's final print issue the next year.

Its founder, EMF Broadcasting, and eventual buyer Salem were both active in Christian radio. EMF owns the content networks K-LOVE and Air 1. At the time of the sale, Salem operated nearly 100 radio stations.
