Following the formation of the American Lutheran Church in 1960, The Lutheran Standard represented the merger of publications from the respective merging church bodies.

The original title was published first published in Columbus, Ohio in 1842, with the final issue on 24 December 1960 (Vol 118 #52). The new publication restarts at volume one.
